Best free iPhone apps 2013 part II

As we discussed about top free iPhone apps earlier (read me) here are some of the apps comes next to them  as part ii

16. Around Me

Around Me figures out where you are and lists local stuff - banks, bars, petrol stations and, er, Apple Retail Stores. The app's reliance on Google Maps info means there are gaps, but it's nonetheless handy to have installed when in unfamiliar surroundings, and the 'augmented reality' landscape mode is amusing, if flaky.
Around Me

17. Dictionary.com - Dictionary & Thesaurus

Over two million definitions, synonyms and antonyms are available in the palm of your hand with this free, offline dictionary and thesaurus. The app is fast and efficient, includes phonetic and audio pronunciation of words, and its interface seems perfectly suited to the iPhone.
Dictionary

18. Air Video Free

Air Video Free can stream (and convert as necessary) video from any computer running the free Air Video Server. You only get access to a small number of items per folder or playlist, but some careful planning can get around that limitation.

19. Adobe Photoshop Express

If you're looking for Photoshop-style power, Photoshop Express won't impress. However, if you're after a quick, free, highly usable tool for making edits to your iPhone photos, Adobe's app is ideal. Use it for cropping, straightening, exposure adjustments, colour effects, sharpening and more.
Photoshop

20. iHandy Level Free

One of the tools from the excellent iHandy Carpenter toolkit app, iHandy Level Free turns your iPhone into a spirit level. By default, it'll show just how wonky your device's accelerometer is, but tap the calibrate button and you get an accurate and great-looking level.
iHandy level free

21. Pocket

The service formerly known as Read It Later enables you to save pages from websites, to read them later, bereft of the advertising and other junk on the original page. The service is free, as is the Pocket app, which downloads your articles, so that you can digest them without a web connection.
Pocket

22. PCalc Lite

"But I've already got a calculator on my device," you might argue. True, but we'd recommend stashing the default Apple app in a folder and replacing it with PCalc Lite. The reason: this is without doubt the finest free calculator for iOS, with a great interface and plenty of options. You can also bolt-on features from the paid version via in-app purchases.

PCalc Lite

23. iBooks

Effectively iTunes for books, the app combines a reader and store, in Apple's typically usable and integrated fashion. Usefully, iBooks includes PDF support and bookmarks automatically sync across devices.
iBooks

24. RL Classic

The RL Classic bar-code scanner is pretty accurate, even if you're still saddled with an iPhone 3G. It's great for checking prices while shopping, and also enables you to get your media collections into Delicious Library if you make use of AppleScript.
Red Laser

25. eBay

On using the eBay app, there's a good chance you won't go near the eBay website again. The app is fast, has great saved searches (which flag new finds), and enables you to create listings. The last of those things is also improved by the built-in bar-code scanning.
eBay Mobile

26. Tube Map London

At its most basic, Tube Map London is a London Tube map on your device, for free. In landscape, even the ads get out of your way, which is rather nice. And if you've a web connection, the app also provides live board info, a station finder and a route calculator.
Tube Map London

27. Google Earth

"Hold the world in the palm of your hand," says Google about Google Earth, which enables you to fly across the planet by swiping your finger. More integration with content and features from Maps would be good, but Google Earth's Wikipedia articles and a Panoramio layer at least ensure it's a great app for seeing the world from your living room.

Google earth

28. XE Currency

XE Currency is a fine example of an app that does what it needs to, without fuss. You configure a list of currencies, and it shows current conversion rates. Double-tap a currency to set its base rate or to define values for custom conversions.
XE Currency

29. Shazam

Shazam is an app that feels like magic when you first use it. It's deceptively simple—hold your iPhone near to a music source, and wait while the app listens and tells you what track is playing. But the sheer technology behind this simplicity is mind-boggling, and while Shazam doesn't always guess right, it's worth a download.
Shazam

30. Bump

Another contender for the 'surely, that's witchcraft?' award, Bump enables you to select up to four contacts, then 'bump' your device into another iOS device running Bump to transfer details, or to compare contacts. And, yeah, we know there's an email-based 'share contact' option in Contacts, but where's the fun in that?

Conclusion:
These are the best iPhone apps most popular in itune market and it is also free, use this apps to personalize your iPhone. If your top free iPhone apps aren't covered, tell us all about them in the comments.

Best free iPhone apps 2013

There are now hundreds of thousands of apps available for your iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPod touch and iPad, and, surprisingly, many of the best are free.
The following list showcases our pick of the 80 best free iPhone apps, and includes iPhone applications for social networking, travel, news, photography, productivity and more.
Most of these apps are also suitable for the iPod touch.
If your top free iPhone apps aren't covered, tell us all about them in the comments.

1. Facebook

The world's biggest social network brings a tightly honed experience to the iPhone and iPod touch, but nonetheless still enables you to access your contacts, feeds and other important information. This sense of focus makes it in many ways superior to using Facebook in a desktop browser.
Facebook

2. PhotoSynth

We did a bit of a double-take on seeing Microsoft's name attached to this, not least given the lack of a price-tag. But PhotoSynth is a really great panorama app; it's user-friendly and fun to use, especially when watching your panoramas take shape while you capture them. (The iOS Camera app also has a panorama mode, but PhotoSynth's more flexible and works with older devices.)
Photosynth

3. RunKeeper

The prospect of Nike+ but better and for free might sound unlikely, but that's what RunKeeper provides. Previously split into 'pro' and 'free' versions, the developer now generously includes all the features in one free app.
That means you can spend no money, yet use your iPhone's GPS capabilities to track your jogging and cycling routes, and examine mapping and details of your pace and calories burned. Activities can be shared online, and treadmill runs and other exercise details can be entered manually.
RunKeeper

4. Pulse

RSS has a reputation for being a rather dry technology, feeding you dull lists of headlines. Pulse flips RSS on its head, providing streams of feeds that grab your eye with photographs. It's perhaps not for the hardcore RSS crowd, but if you follow a small number of feeds, it's a great choice.
Pulse

5. Dropbox

Plenty of apps exist for transferring content between your computer and your device, but Dropbox is free and easier to use than most of its contemporaries. Dump files you want to sync in a folder on your computer and Dropbox for your device will enable you to access them, download them for offline viewing, and, in many cases, view them.
DropBox

6. National Rail Enquiries

For anyone commuting by train, National Rail Enquiries is a handy app to have installed. There's journey planning, timetables and a location-aware 'next train home' option, along with progress tracking, so you can see when a train's likely to show up. It's not as usable nor as pretty as UK Train Times, but it is broadly similar - and five quid cheaper.
National Rail Enquiries

7. Skype

FaceTime is a great alternative to standard voice calls, but it's no good if you're trying to contact someone without a Mac or compatible iOS device. Therefore, Skype remains an essential download. The interface is simple and usable, enabling anyone with a Skype account to make free calls to other Skype users and cheap calls to anywhere in the world. If you're on Pay and Go, this is particularly handy, but the app also enables iPod touch users to utilise their devices for calls.
Skype

8. Movies by Flixter

Although some aspects of cinema listings app Movies by Flixter are disappointingly US-centric (notably regarding details on upcoming movies and DVDs), it succeeds where it matters. Select a film and the app figures out where you're located, lists nearby cinemas, and displays times your chosen film is showing. Efficiency can be further increased by pinning favourite cinemas to the top of the list.
Movies

9. TonePad

Virtual pianos and guitars are all very well, but purely digital musical toys are more suited to Apple handhelds. TonePad is the best of them, using a grid-based interface that enables you to turn notes on and off and compose pleasing and harmonious loops; your creations can be edited, saved and uploaded to share with other users.
Tonepad

10. Thomson Reuters News Pro

There are many free news apps, but Reuters News Pro offers a breadth of coverage that makes it a winner. Preferences enable you to tailor the app's output to the UK, and the toolbar provides swift access to news, pictures, videos and stock markets coverage.
Reuters

11. Twitter

The official Twitter app might lack some of the features found in the likes ofTweetbot, but it does provide a sleek and simple means of using the service. It also directly mirrors the latest navigational scheme on the Twitter website.
Twitter

12. Comics

In all honesty, Comics is a little awkward compared to using it on an iPad, but you won't find a better comics experience on an iPhone. The app is free, as are dozens of downloadable comics - and once you run out of those, many more are available to buy. Reading works on a frame-by-frame automated 'zoom' basis, and is surprisingly usable.
Comics

13. Wikipanion

The Wikipedia website works fine on iPhones, but a dedicated app is a better bet. Wikipanion is a freebie which gives you quick access to article sections, in-article search, viewing options, bookmarking, and the ability to tweet about whatever odd fact you've just unearthed. Also, wonderfully, there are no ads.
Wikipanion

14. Evernote

Clients to access the popular Evernote service for storing notes and ideas online are available for so many platforms that we half expect a ZX Spectrum app to be announced tomorrow. On the iPhone, Evernote is efficient and usable, enabling you to rapidly scan your notes and also create new ones.
Evernote

15. Kindle

With iBooks on the iPhone, you might wonder why you should bother with Amazon's Kindle. After all, the app's not as pretty as iBooks, nor is there an integrated store (you buy in Safari and sync purchases to the app). However, Kindle offers a massive selection of books compared to Apple's app and the reading experience is great.

USSD Exploit Can Remote Wipe Your Android

A serious vulnerability in Android can lead to complete Data Wipe on your Android Device, Find if your device is vulnerable to this attack and Learn how to fix it before you lose your precious data.
The remote wipe hack/attack was first thought to be affecting only Samsung devices and soon after it was discovered on the Samsung SIII, The company released a Patch via the latest Software Update. If you own a Samsung SIII get the update before its too late.

Recently it was found that not only Samsung phones but indeed many other android devices are vulnerable to this attack. While the Remote Wipe hack is said to only prevail in the Samsung phones, There are many other malicious injects that other Android users need to worry about.
Some phones support special dial codes called USSDs (e.g., dialing *#06# displays the phone’s IMEI number). Through malicious links in a website, SMS, NFC beam or QR code, hackers can perform a complete factory reset on your phone, lock the SIM card, and more that too without a single Popup for confirmation or a warning message. Its like you lost control of the device you ‘once’ owned.
Check if your Android device is vulnerable to the attack.

Dylan Reeve a popular TV Editor and Techie made a special webpage which works the same as the Malicious webpages that infect users, Only difference is that this page is safe to use and fires a harmless code on your Android.

As far as I understood, This exploit works like this:
You visit the infected page > The page fires the USSD code via your stock Dialer > The code gets executed and your device is wiped.
Do you remember visiting those Mobile Websites of restaurants where you get the “Tap to Call” button? These buttons have the following code -
tel:0123456789 underlying the button just like <a href=”google.com”> code for HTML Links.

Hackers can create a similar button with the USSD Codes (malicious) and since USSD codes are handled the same way as the Keyed in numbers the execution is instant.

Dylan’s page works the same but fires the *#06# USSD code which popups your IMEI code. So to check for your device’s vulnerability, Do the following.
Step 1. Visit this webpage by Dylan : [LINK] on your Android web browser (Stock browser or Opera/Firefox/Chrome).

Possible Fixes to this Android Vulnerability.
  1. Install an alternative Dialer App on your Android : Install an alternative Dialer app with confirmation messages that will prevent auto dial of USSD Codes, One such app is Dialer One. Install it and set it as the default Dialer app.
  2. Install TelStop or Auto – Reset Blocker security apps designed by Developers to fix this vulnerability unless manufacturers act.
  3. Another tip from XDA was to install another Browser but that didn’t do good as the code executed even in Opera Mini. But its worth a try along with the above fixes.
  4. Check for Software Updates from Manufacturers. Force update check by going to Settings > About Phone > System Update.

AMD unveils world’s first 5GHz CPU

In a desperate ploy to stay relevant, AMD has announced the first commercially available CPU to hit 5GHz: the FX-9590. Like its flagship predecessor, the FX-8350, the new chip features four Piledriver modules, which roughly equates to eight cores. For those of you who can’t afford the FX-9590, AMD is also releasing the FX-9370, which is identical except for a slightly lower clock of 4.7GHz. Both chips are unlocked for further overclocking.

Before you get too excited, though, we should warn you that AMD — as usual, when it comes to performance — isn’t being entirely honest about the FX-9590′s 5GHz claim to fame. 5GHz is the chip’s Turbo Core speed, not the base clock. AMD hasn’t even announced the base clock speed, leaving us to guess (it’s probably around 4.3GHz). In reality, 5GHz will probably only be obtainable when there’s plenty of thermal overhead, and not for extended periods of time; if you were hoping to build a render farm out of eight-core monsters that are stuck at 5GHz, you will be disappointed.

AMD, which announced the FX-9590 and 9370 at E3, is framing these two chips as the ultimate gaming companion. “At E3 this week, AMD demonstrated why it is at the core of gaming,” says AMD vice president Bernd Lienhard. “The new FX 5 GHz processor is an emphatic performance statement to the most demanding gamers seeking ultra-high resolution experiences.” In reality, of course, the single-threaded (and multi-threaded) performance of Ivy Bridge and Haswell make Intel a better choice for gaming. (See our Haswell review.) The one exception, as always, is if you’re trying to build a rig on a budget — we don’t have a price yet, but it’ll probably be around $300, or a little less than the top-of-the-range Core i7-4770K.

The bigger story here is that AMD has released the first commercial CPU to hit 5GHz, with a standard heatsink and fan (fun fact: AMD also produced the first 1GHz chip, way back in 2000). Piledriver was always built with high clock speeds in mind (See: AMD’s FX-8350 analyzed: Does Piledriver deliver where Bulldozer fell short?), but 5GHz is still rather impressive. AMD may have made some tweaks to the architecture reach 5GHz, but in all likelihood this is probably just the result of improved yields from GlobalFoundries’ 32nm SoI process, which is finally reaching maturity. This correlates nicely with AMD’s recently released Richland APUs, which feature Piledriver-based CPUs capable of 5GHz overclocks.

The FX-9590 and FX-9370, both of which are Socket AM3+ Vishera CPUs, will be released “this summer.” No word on pricing yet, but they will probably be priced just below Intel’s chips. It’s also worth noting that process maturity doesn’t override physics: At 5GHz, the FX-9590 will have an utterly monstrous TDP, probably in the 200W region.

Best iphone Apps Of The Week

1.EasilyDo

The free iPhone app EasilyDo works as a personal assistant and automation machine. You connect the app to a variety of online services, like your email, calendar, Facebook account, and so forth, and then EasilyDo looks for things it can help you get easily done. For example, a notification might ask you if you'd like EasilyDo to add the contact details of someone who has recently emailed you to your address book. Or it might spot an upcoming birthday of a friend and let you set up a "happy birthday" post to their timeline in advance. It's an amazing productivity app that helps you take care of a variety of tasks quickly and efficiently.

2.Flipboard
Flipboard , an app initially designed for the iPad that curates content from your social networks and Web partners (think periodicals, blogs, etc.) based on your interests and turns them into stunning magazine-like digital pages, is now available on the iPhone. The app is free to download and requires a free user account. Flipboard absolutely shines on the iPad, taking advantage of swiping gestures with both visual and interactive grace. On the smaller iPhone, it's elegant, if a little cramped.
3.Onavo

The free app Onavo Extend compresses data automatically to help you reduce data usage on your phone. In other words, it will save you money if you typically exceed your mobile service plan's data allotment. Additionally, anyone traveling abroad with an iPhone should absolutely have Onavo installed. Learn the settings well, and watch your data usage decrease without you having to do anything else
Onavo

4.Comics

In all honesty, Comics is a little awkward compared to using it on an iPad, but you won't find a better comics experience on an iPhone. The app is free, as are dozens of downloadable comics - and once you run out of those, many more are available to buy. Reading works on a frame-by-frame automated 'zoom' basis, and is surprisingly usable.

Fed up of typing on the tiny iPhone keyboard? Use Dragon DIctation instead, which happily converts your speech into text (with slightly spooky levels of accuracy for a freebie app). You can even punctuate ("Comma! Full-stop!"), and when you're done the app enables you to fire your thoughts at Facebook, Twitter, Mail or the iOS clipboard.
Of course, Siri's available for more recent iOS devices; even so, Dragon Dictation has a longer buffer time and might be more suitable for people used to defining punctuation while dictating.

Tech Books

Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.”

                                                                - Lemony Snicket

1.Hack Attacks Revealed

Hack-attack-revealed

Hack Attacks Revealed Partially
Hack Attacks Revealed begins with a solid technical foundation but soon unravels without revealing true hacking.
Hackers understand that the true art and spirit of hacking cannot be taught. Hacking is a mindset that goes way beyond textbook instructions or explanations. As such, even a well-written book on the subject generally covers only concepts and detailed examples, failing to examine true hacking.
A bulk of the chapters that deal with actual hacking seems repetitive and extremely lacking in detail. Rather than going into specifics about the methodology of breaking into a remote system, for example, Chirillo leaves the reader hanging after basic explanations of the most rudimentary network tools.
Once you've learned simple network information about a system such as DNS and 'whois' info, then what? If we follow the author's logic, launching a multitude of denial-of-service (DoS) attacks would be the next step. In reality, DoS attacks are rarely performed in hacking, be it open hacking without authorization or under contract as a professional penetration security engineer. As Chirillo moves into a new topic or method involved in hacking, he suddenly drops the previous one without further explanation, leaving the reader in the dark about the next step.

Strong Start
The foundation of successful hacking is a strong knowledge of the inner workings of the systems the hacker is attacking. This means knowing not only operating systems and software but also the protocols that let the machines work together. Hack Attacks Revealed's first three chapters do give a very thorough, technical explanation of communications protocols and the hardware involved.

More Is Less
Hack Attacks Revealed is a formidable book, weighing in at just under 950 pages. Don't let this intimidate you in any way. With more than 100 pages of useless source code, large-font tables of easily referenced material (outside of this book), and 200 pages of appendices, you easily can skip at least one third of this book in favor of the real content. Unfortunately, that real content falls short of truly "revealing" anything about what hacking really is.
